This. This was the very definition of torture. Geneva Conventions–grade cruel and unusual fucking punishment.

Sitting on a bench in a leather bar’s playroom, cradling a naked and delirious Derek under a blanket, I was about to go out of my damned mind. His body was completely slack against mine, his skin hot through my leather top and his hair damp with sweat beneath my fingers.

Bryan brought him a bottle of water from the bar. He went about cleaning up the play area while I eased Derek all the way up and gave him the water.

Master Jack came over and tousled Derek’s hair. “You doin’ all right, kid?”

Derek murmured an affirmative. He took a long drink from bottle, downing almost two thirds of it in one go. Then he set the bottle aside and rested limply against my shoulder again.

Master Jack smiled. To me, he said, “You two in town for the whole con?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

“Well, we’d love to play again. We’re in room 412, and you and your boy know where to find our booth.”

I smiled as I stroked Derek’s hair. “Good to know.”

“You got him?” Master Jack asked. “I can help—”

“I’ve got him. Don’t worry. He sometimes takes a while to come back down.” I grinned. “Means you got him into a really good space. Nicely done.”

“Thanks. You’re a lucky man with that one.”

“Oh. I . . . we’re not . . .” I paused. “We’re both unattached. But we belong to the same dungeon. I’ve . . . watched him a few times.”

Master Jack grinned. “Well, still. Lucky you.”

“Yeah.” I tried to return the grin, but it probably looked as halfhearted as it felt.

Lucky me. Right.

“So he doesn’t have a Dom?” Master Raul appeared on the bench beside us, on Derek’s other side. “I’ll be damned. He never mentioned you, but for some reason, when we got here, I assumed he was with you.”

“No.” I gritted my teeth and kept stroking Derek’s hair. “We’re just rooming together.”

“Ah.” Master Raul’s gaze drifted over Derek’s back and shoulders, probably taking in the marks and welts. “Can’t imagine a sub like this has any trouble finding someone.”

I half expected Derek to come back with something, either a suggestive comment about being very much on the market or a snide remark about wanting to play the field, but he didn’t move. With the way he was breathing so slowly and deeply, he might even have fallen asleep.

When Derek didn’t respond, I looked over him at Master Raul. “He just hasn’t found the right Dom. You know how it goes. Have to find the right match.”

Eyes still fixed on Derek, Master Raul nodded slowly, but he didn’t speak. He didn’t have to. I knew that look. That intrigued, borderline predatory look. Derek was leaning on my shoulder, resting after his scene with Master Jack, and if he hadn’t been before, he was very firmly on Master Raul’s radar now. Fuck my life.

Bryan had finished cleaning up the play area, so he and Master Jack came back to check on Derek.
