Bullion knot.
Step 1: Commence a bullion knot by bringing your needle and thread onto the top of the fabric. Now take the needle down into the fabric, the length of the bullion you wish to create. Leave a large loop of working thread on the top.
Step 2: Bring the needle back up through the first hole, but do not bring the needle all the way through. Hold the needle underneath securely then wrap the top thread around the needle a number of times. The number of wraps will create the length of the stitch you require.
