JESUS AND THE CULTS

IT’S NOT LIKE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SURPRISED. Jesus talked about it and the disciples asked questions about it. It’s there in the Word for us to read and study.

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.” You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains (Matthew 24:3-8).

Jesus told His disciples that His coming would be in the midst of a time when many false Christs would be deceiving many people. Yet many people are still asking that same question today: How are we to know when Jesus Christ will return? What will be the signs of the second coming?

Jesus promised that He would return, and He gave some clues about that return.

In 1984 and 1985, Ron and his family were living as missionaries in the Philippine Islands. During those two years he spoke throughout the country, traveling among its many islands. He would often share a story with the Filipino people that they all remembered.
