Celeste watched it all happen again.

She remembered each thing fractions of a second before it occurred again in front of her, but she was powerless to stop it. At some point she left her body, now an observer and unable to so much as throw kicks, unable to so much as squirm and fight. She became an interloper, watching with eyes held open.

They’d made her choose which of her sisters died first. When she refused to make that choice, they chose for her: Penelope, but the men violated her first.

Then Anna, who bled slowly with pleading in her eyes, violated just the same.

Celeste, held back by whoever was not torturing her sisters at the time, struggled and fought, horrified at the way the creatures drank their blood. She could of course do nothing. And when both sisters were gone — pale and drained — the woman came to her and asked how she, herself, would like to die.

Quickly, Celeste had answered. Please, I beg of you. End me quickly, and end this pain.

She’d been in no physical pain at first — only an empty-chested feeling that left her soul screaming. Physical pain came next, though, and it took its time. The woman had not yet drunk blood, so she drank from Celeste all by herself. She licked her lips and pointed teeth as Celeste finally began to drift away.

Go now, the woman said, while you stare at the dead Heaven that awaits you.
