Common sorrel is found throughout Europe. Sheep’s sorrel is found in Europe, Canada and the United States.

Where to find it locally

Sorrel is most common in grassland and meadows where the soil is slightly damp, although if an area is prone to flooding it will disappear. You can also find it by the side of roads and paths, in gardens and on wasteland.

HOW TO EAT IT

Sorrel can be a welcome nibble when you are out walking. It is good in salads or wilted down with a bit of butter (most leaves are) alongside fish, especially salmon and trout.
