Abraham Maslow first described the term self-actualisation in 1943. Maslow described five layers of the human phases that describe stages of human growth. [301] This theory in psychology is still an important theory, as it assists companies in training its employees and helps people unlock their best potential. Maslow’s hierarchy is described as follows:

Physiological needs – such as food and shelter

Safety and security

Belongingness – such as human emotions, love, and friendship

Esteem – the feeling of accomplishment

Self-actualisation – creativity, achieving full potential
