Group Variations on the “Why” Technique

#1: The 15-Minute Red-Flag “Probing” Game

Before playing this game, have everyone bring some sort of red material like a dish towel, washcloth, or even red paper to the group. These will be your red, closed valve flags to wave at your group dreamers as they trip up vibrationally in their storytelling.

When everyone has something red, have each person in the group take turns picking a Want and describing why that Want is desired. As soon as your dreamer gets started, have the group (randomly) begin to probe him with every kind of question imaginable:

“How would that make you feel?” “Why?”

“Why do you like feeling like that?”

“What does your new car smell like?”

“What's it got inside?” “Why do you like that?”

“Who will you show it to first?” “Why?”

“Who will you take in it first?” “Why?”

“How will that make you feel?” “Why?”

Who, what, why, when, where, what color, what smell, what for, how big, what kind, how many? Describe, describe, describe.

Begin the probing gently, building to a crescendo to force passion. For fifteen minutes, you—as the group—want to push that dreamer to the limit of passion, to the limit of allowing himself to feel things he would never begin to allow himself to feel, even to showing off his new car to his stingy father-in-law or taking his kids for their first ride. But more than anything, you want to push your dreamer into joy and excitement and delight and finally … intent!

Now, here comes the Red Flag part: Every time your dreamer lets any kind of a negative statement slip out during this fifteen-minute period, wave your red flags wildly. Any statement like “Yeah, but …” or “I don't know how …” or “I'll start with a small one” or “When I find a way …” That Red Flag is an incredibly effective means of shocking the dreamer into how small he's thinking, or how limited he's being, or how afraid he is, or unsure, or disbelieving.
