Until then God used the Huguenot persecution to spread his gospel in unexpected ways, for over the decades hundreds of thousands of Huguenots were forced to flee France. Wherever they went and settled, they took their Protestant beliefs with them. Colonies settled in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, England, and even Africa and the New World. It is hard to overestimate just how much these Huguenots influenced their new countries and how many came to saving faith under their influence. And, of course, God used the Huguenots to provide many examples of steadfastness in suffering. Some of these believers willingly gave up their lives in obedience to Christ and the gospel, while others, like Marie, gave up their years. Marie entered the tower a fresh-faced young lady and left it a broken old woman, but in all of this she steadfastly resisted and counted it all joy for the name of Christ her Savior. I pray that I would be willing to do the same.

My journey would now take me once again from the Old World to the New World, from France back to America, from a prisoner to a preacher.
