Ventilating and Shading the Greenhouse

For most of the time in the summer months it’s beneficial to have the ventilators and the greenhouse door fully open.

During extremely hot weather even sun-loving plants like tomatoes will benefit from a little shade.

A propriety whitewash applied directly to the glass is the cheapest and easiest way to provide shade.

Only apply to the sunniest side of the greenhouse and be ready to wash it off when cooler, cloudy conditions resume.

Harvesting Fully ripe Tomatoes

You can enjoy a bumper crop of tomatoes for 3 – 4 months.

Any green tomatoes picked at the end of September/early October can be ripened on a sunny windowsill or used green for tomato chutney or fried green tomatoes.
