Earlier that evening in the studio I caught snatches of conversations between other horn players. An older saxophonist convening with a player scarcely out of the conservatory. A thirty-something trumpeter chuckling with a sixty-something trombonist. Many players mentioned that the variety of ages represented that night was a unique and important characteristic of the band. So, I asked Tom Tom and Gene to talk about the intergenerational nature of the Big Band.
