I had heard that Aristotle might have been a little vain, that he was always on-trend with his hairstyle. On another day, he might have sported clusters of well-ordered curls around his temple. But for dinner tonight he wears it long, in cascades of blond curls. He narrows his eyes as he peers at me over sharp cheekbones: he is perplexed. Why am I so interested in wasps? Do I not mind their stings? After all, wasps are ‘all with stings and stronger [than bees] and their wound is more painful … and proportionately bigger [than bees]’. It seems the reputation of wasps has changed little over the last millennia. Where to start?
