LAZY DAISY

Ready for a challenge? If you’re new to embroidery or haven’t tried the lazy daisy stitch, it’s probably going to feel a little weird at first. To complete a single petal will take a few steps, but before you know it, you’ll be stitching fields of daisies in no time.

What you need to pay attention to the most here is the tension you use to pull on your thread when you create the loop that will become your petal. This stitch also requires the use of both hands working together. While most used for flowers, their teardrop shape makes perfect leaves when used individually.

The pattern shown in the example is of the final shape of our daisy. Don’t be concerned if yours doesn’t match up perfectly. The lazy daisy often has a mind of its own, so think of it more as a guide for size and shape. As with the straight stitch flower, make sure to leave a small amount of room in the center so it can be filled with a knot to finish.

1. The first step is to create a loop with your thread that will become your petal. Bring your threaded needle up through A and down through B but not all the way through. A and B should be very close together but not touching. Leave a length of floss at least twice as long as the petal shown in the pattern. Lay your loop upward and flat.
