The Energetic Pacific White-sided Dolphin

This is one beautiful and extremely energetic dolphin. As the name suggests, these dolphins have white shadings on their sides.

70. Aside from its white markings, the Pacific White-sided Dolphin is identifiable with the black rings that cover both of its eyes.

71. Another unique feature is the beak which is rather very small. It seems to be out of proportion as compared to the rest of this dolphin's body.

72. Its dorsal fin appears to have a hook on its end.

73. An adult Pacific White-sided Dolphin will be 8 feet long and weigh about 300 pounds.

74. They call the Pacific Ocean their home.

75. They do not like to stay in water that is too cold or too warm. These dolphins like it just right.

76. Like their close relative, the Dusky Dolphin, the Pacific White-sided Dolphins are very agile. They are often seen showing off various acrobatic stunts in the water.

77. This energetic dolphin can make huge leaps. They can also do belly flops and somersaults.

78. Their favorite food is squid. But they will also feed on sardines, herring and anchovies.

79. When young dolphins grow to a 5.5 or 6 feet size, they are ready to mate.

80. Mating usually occurs during the late fall.

81. It takes 12 months before a calf is born.

82. A cow takes care of its young for about 2 to 3 years. When the calf becomes independent, the cow prepares to mate again.
