Fashion for Television
When being interviewed on television, dress as if you are going to a job interview, because that's essentially what this is: your job of being the spokesperson of your organization. This generally means business casual (for women, a suit or a dress; for men, a suit). Here are some style pointers:
Women
Suits: They are timeless, classy, and stylish. Buy a suit that makes you walk with a little bit more confidence. The choice of pants versus skirt is yours, just make sure it fits you well.
Dresses: Flattering, tasteful dresses look wonderful. Choose colors or prints that are smart and simple. Aim for a look that will pop on screen and make you feel great.
Shoes: A proper business casual shoe is closed-toe, not too high, and not too flashy. Avoid flip-flops or sneakers.
Jewelry and accessories: Jewelry for television can add some flair without being distracting. The famous designer Coco Chanel is credited as saying, “Before you leave the house, take one thing off,”5 as a way to convey that understated elegance is the better way to go. As a rule, you have earrings, a necklace, and a pin: pick two.
Hair and makeup: This is the most important part of your appearance because people will be looking at your face as they listen to you. Your hair and makeup should be neat, one step above your normal routine, and make you feel confident. For hair, a little bit of styling goes a long way. With makeup, aim for perfect skin and softly enhanced features. Wear at least a lip balm because when our lips are dry, we often subconsciously lick them and don't smile as much. Avoid shimmer or glitter anywhere. When you are finished, you should look like you but just a little bit better than usual.
