Why use an abstract from a middle schooler? In our experience, students seldom read research reports, so they aren’t familiar with the genre of an abstract. Abstracts from published research articles are difficult, so we like to start with an easier one, written by one of their peers. With that preparation, they will be better able to tackle an abstract related to the inquiry the class is pursuing, if need be.
