Submission is not about giving my husband biblical permission to mistreat me or even saying that he’s always right. Respecting, honoring, and submitting to Stevie in everything that’s not outside God’s will is a matter of trusting that when God set this whole marriage thing up, He knew what He was doing. This epic battle of my will versus God’s does not always go well in the Stimpson household, and I realize there are biblical parameters both husband and wife need to respect with regard to godly submission.

But every time I see my daughter put on a pair of gym shoes (in the car, mind you, since she’s always running late), I’m reminded of how much better things can turn out when I relinquish control and submit to my husband’s way of doing things, even when I disagree.

Submitting to our husbands gives God perfect permission to steer and direct our families toward His perfect plan.
