Chapter Seventeen

Jaime downed her shot when Stacy returned with her drinks, then she grabbed Stacy by the arm and pulled her onto the dance floor. Alexis pretended not to pay them any mind, but she watched out of the corner of her eye as Jaime moved her body against Stacy’s backside. Her internal vibrator was rattling the muscles in her stomach so viciously she thought she heard a buzzing in her ears.

When the song ended, Jaime disappeared into the crowd, and Stacy returned to the table. “I apologize for Jaime humping your leg like a dog,” Alexis said with a wry smile.

Stacy laughed. “It’s a dance floor thing, everybody humps everybody.”

“Yeah, but her tongue was hanging out when she did it, and it was kinda gross. The dog obedience classes I sent her to were a total waste of money, she didn’t learn anything.” Alexis smiled. “She’s probably in a corner somewhere chewing a shoe.”

“What’s your idea of a good time?” Stacy asked before she took a drink of her beer.

“It used to be clubbing, but now I hate to admit that I enjoy playing video games.” Alexis held up a hand when Stacy’s face went blank. “I know, I’m a total loser geek.”

“I have all the Call of Duty games, every last one, are you calling me a loser?” Stacy asked seriously.

“Um…no. You’ve just become the coolest woman on the planet. Do you kill any zombies?”

“Do I?” Stacy exclaimed. “You’re looking at a master slayer. I cannot wait to get my hands on Ghost Dimension, the new game developed by—”

“I have it! As soon as it was announced, I got on a waiting list.” Alexis slapped the table. “It came in the mail yesterday, but I haven’t had time to open the box.”

“Let’s go to your house right now,” Stacy said excitedly.

Jaime appeared in front of their table with two more shots, two beers, and the woman she’d danced with earlier. “Hey, y’all, this is Megan, and we want the table, so go dance.”

“Nice to meet you, Megan,” Alexis yelled over the music as she stood. She didn’t need any more prompting from Jaime to dance with Stacy. A woman who loved video games was like the golden goose.

Stacy followed her onto the floor and said, “I can’t believe you didn’t open the box!”

“I didn’t want to rush it,” Alexis replied as she moved to the music. “I wanted time to sit back and enjoy it, you know? I don’t think I would’ve been satisfied with a quick play. I know when I put my hands on the controls, I’m not gonna be able to stop for a while, and I don’t want to be interrupted when I’m getting into it.”

Stacy nodded. “Sometimes, video games are better than sex—sometimes. It’s an escape like a book or a movie, but it’s adrenaline-filled and you can blow stuff up.”

“Exactly. When I’ve had a stressful day, I take my grenade launcher out for a walk.” Alexis grinned when an old song began to play.
