It is probably fair to say that in the past, those who engaged in the “mail order bride” practice were men who found themselves on the fringe of society. In other words they were men who have had difficulty finding women in their home country. While a large number of Western men still probably fit into this category, there seems to be a slight demographic shift beginning. Now, more and more “regular” guys are getting in on the action. To be clear, most Western men who look for a foreign woman are still men on the periphery, however in addition to them, more younger and/or successful men are increasingly broadening their search for a mate that includes not only women in their home country, but also focuses on finding one from Asia, Latin America, and/or Eastern Europe and Russia.
There are a couple side effects to this demographic shift. First, the men who are on the fringe are increasingly feeling the pinch and getting squeezed out of some markets. Foremost however, economic progress is ongoing in many of these locations ripe for Western men looking for love. Surplus money elevates that country’s socio-economic status, leading to less interest amongst these foreign women in a relationship with a Westerner. Also, these foreign women have become more picky as the sheer number of their perceived choices, both foreign and domestic, have gone up. Fringe Westerners must therefore find even more remote locales to get their “pick of the litter,” so to speak. In addition, even though it is probably unnoticeable at this point, a second collateral side affect of this trend is that women in countries with a higher socio-economic status might find fewer suitors available to choose from in the future. The ultimate ramifications on interpersonal relations remain to be seen. One could hypothesize however that the not-so-young women of wealthier countries in the future will need to become increasingly competitive with one another in order to find mates.
But the point to be made of the aforesaid realities is to know oneself. Unfortunately, some Western men are delusional, plain and simple. As discussed earlier, for example, if you are not Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan, and are a sixty year old Western male and your girlfriend happens to be a foreign twenty-five year old woman, you had best internalize that the only reason she is with you is for reasons related to money. On the other hand, if she is a thirty-five year old woman and you are sixty, she very well might be with you more for love than money. It’s a bit of an art form to understand this concept. In general though, twenty years or less age difference is a good start if a man hopes to find a woman for reasons minimally related to the size of his wallet.
Beyond age, it is really important that Western men be realistic with themselves or they will get “worked” in the long run. That is, water seeks its own level.
