Hook Method

Although the hook method is considered to be one of the more complicated methods for tying a slip knot, many people who crochet find that this method is the quickest. Begin by unwinding enough yarn from your skein to make a slip knot. Generally, this will be about 12 inches. Then, follow the next steps to make your slip knot.

Pick up the free end of the yarn and make a small loop at the end.

Push the hook through the loop with your dominant hand while holding the cut end of the string with your other hand.

Still holding the free end of the yarn, twist the hook to catch a second loop.

Use the hook to pull the second loop through the first one.

Tighten both ends of the string using your hands.

You should have a slip knot completed. Yarn over and pull through again to make your first chain.
