Mesh and Trellis Work
Mesh and trellis techniques produce lace patterns which can be used for numerous items.
Basic Mesh Technique
Proceed as follows:
Prepare your base chain with an odd number of stitches. For example, 11 stitches.
Next, work a row of 10 single chain stitches and make 3 chain stitches at the end and turn.
Now skip the first stitch and work into the next stitch creating a slip stitch.
Next, make 3 chain stitches, skip next stitch, make a stitch and after that make a slip stitch.
Repeat these steps as you work across the row, remember to turn after every row, and youâll end up with a lovely mesh pattern.
Basic Trellis Technique
The chain spaces in the trellis-work are larger and form arches giving it a more attractive look.
Try the following steps:
Make a foundation chain. Your stitches should be in multiples of 4 plus an additional 2 stitches.
Row one: Work on the single-chain into six chain stitch from your hook. *Still in row 1, make 5 chain stitches, skip three chain stitches, work one your single crochet to the following chain.* Repeat this from * till the end of the chain.
Row two: *Make 5 chain stitches, then work 1 single chain into the next 5 chain space. Repeat again from * until the end of your row.
You can repeat the second row as many times as you need to until you are complete, then fasten off.
