This is the true Mediterranean myrtle – unrelated to the bayberries / wax myrtles, Myrica spp.

Size: 0.6-2m (2′-6′6″) high and wide in the UK.

Conditions: Sun and shelter from cold winds.

Spice uses: Leaves used as flavouring. In warm climes the fruits can be used too.

Harvest and storage: Pick leaves from spring to autumn; fruits in the autumn. Dry both to store.

Cooking/processing: Use leaves and fruits in cooked dishes.

Secondary uses: Bee plant.

Propagation: By seed – not dormant.

Maintenance: Little required. Really needs a nice warm site.
