6 If desired, add a square of wadding (batting) behind the patchwork. Using two strands of #0503 garnets stranded cotton, quilt a running stitch line all around the border, about 1⁄4in (6mm) away from the seam.
Making up
7 Pin the cushion front and back pieces right sides together and stitch together all round, leaving about 2in (5cm) unstitched at the bottom. Clip the corners, turn the cushion through to the right side and press the seam. Stuff firmly with toy filling, adding scented pot-pourri if you wish. Use ladder stitch and matching thread to sew the opening closed.
