Glass Bottles and Jars
There is room on any countertop or windowsill for one of these. Glass bottles and jars are perfect for growing herbs and are easy to maintain. Leakproof sealed bottoms are great for countertops, but the key is to not overwater them. Most glass vessels are transparent or semitransparent, allowing you to see when the soil is moist. Still, overwatering is easy to do and roots will rot if they have to sit in a mucky bottom. Slowly add just enough water to see the soil become hydrated, but not so much that a pool forms at the base.
