Mint makes an interesting and useful window box planting.
If you want a long-term planting in a window box, try miniature evergreen shrubs. Some of the dwarf conifers are excellent and come in a wide range of colors and texture. Combine them with ivies or flowering plants for an unusual display.
Herbs do well in window boxes and prefer a sunny spot. And why not vegetables? Try some of the salad crops, such as lettuce in different shades mixed with radishes, and some of the newer varieties of vegetables available in miniature size.
