1 Opening
Prepare the clay as in steps 1–3. With the wheel turning swiftly, press down in the centre of the clay with the heel of one hand while supporting the clay on the outside with the other hand. Push the clay downwards and outwards across the bat.
2 Pressing the centre
The small rise in the centre of the plate is flattened out by pressing with the side of your hand, moving the hand slowly towards the edge. Repeat several times. Consolidate the clay on the base by pressing down with your fingers moving from the centre to the edge.
