15.1.3 Performance of Testicular Cancer Prediction Model

We consider a development sample containing 544 patients [551], and a validation sample 273 patients treated at Indiana University Medical Center [644]. We developed a logistic regression model with five predictors: teratoma elements in the primary tumor, prechemotherapy levels of AFP and HCG, postchemotherapy mass size, and reduction in mass size.

Internal validation of performance was estimated with bootstrapping (500 replications). Bootstrap samples were created by drawing random samples with replacement from the development sample. The prediction model was fitted in each bootstrap sample and tested on the original sample.
