"Good night, Daddy," Chloe said, giving me a big, gummy hug. "Good night, baby."
I watched their backs as they left and a list of possible things Maggie can do to ruin me and my career ran through my mind. But I did not regret my decision. A man's pride is his greatest asset and I'm not going to let Maggie take that from me. She has already taken enough.
Katie:
"No, you didn't say that!" I exclaimed as I burst into laughter.
"That's what I said when he told me too," Fred said, chuckling.
"Oh, yes, I did. I mean, I had no other choice," Douglas replied. "In my defense, I'd say that it frankly wasn't my fault. She said she works in management. How exactly am I supposed to know the name of someone in management, Katie? Tell me. If I ever meet her again, I'll just have to apologize," he added, still laughing at himself.
"Yeah, you should," I said, smiling.
Fred and Douglas had decided to stop by my office with a cup of coffee in their free time. I was grateful for their visit because they always make me laugh.
"So, how's Reed coming on?" Fred asked.
"Just fine. I have it very much under control. Thank you," I replied, smiling.
"That's great," Fred said.
"Alright, I think our time here is done," Douglas announced, motioning to his watch.
"Whoops. Nice watch. Where did you get that?" I asked. From the smile on his face, I assumed he wanted me to ask.
"It's a present. From someone special," he replied with a wink.
I laughed. "It's great to know that you are now off the single men's list."
"I know, right? Don't worry, Katie, you'll get to meet her one day. Soon," Douglas said.
News of Douglas' current relationship status will definitely be sad news for many women at Flash Spot. But then they still have a consolation because they still have Fred, I think.
"Alright, Katie. See you later!" Fred said as they both walked out of my office and shut the door. They have made my day already. I sat back on my chair and just as I was about to prop a pillow against my neck, my secretary bursted in without knocking.
"What's wrong, Amy?" I asked, startled by her.
"Check out sporgeek.com," she said, panting.
"Relax. Relax. What's new on sporgeek.com today?" I asked. I was trying to stay calm as I turned towards my desktop to search for myself.
"James. James Reed," Amelia answered. I didnât miss the shakiness in her voice and now I am nervous.
Sporgeek.com is known for revealing celebrity secrets and scandals, which means being featured on the blog is never a good sign. Why would James be on Sporgeek?
I opened the site and am greeted with the headline: JAMES REED: A WOLF IN AN ATHLETE'S CLOTHING?
As I read the article in utter disbelief, I felt my head spun. I noticed they have included a video. My fingers trembled and my temperature must have risen about three degrees. Is this really happening? Jumping straight into action, I made a few calls in a bid to have the article pulled down.
