Construction

Refer to Refresh Me for detailed instructions on freezer-paper patterns and the slanted-needle technique. Refer to Stitching Glossary for an illustration of each stitch.

STEP ONE: MAKING THE TONGUES

The tongue bottoms slip between the appliqué front and back, overlapping them by ¼˝. All the top tongues are the same size, but the bottom pieces feature middle pieces and mitered corner pieces. Line up the tongue bottoms and tops, baste, and blanket stitch them on 3 sides. Make sure you have the corner miters matched.
