BATTERY GOES DEAD FAST ON 2950 2970: Replace the battery then reset the CPU. Old models-Push Reset, New models-Turn radio on-off-on. Turn radio off, wait 5 to 10 minutes and check battery voltage. If the voltage is dropping, the radio has a short circuit either on a board somewhere but more likely the CPU needs to be replaced.

GALAXY SATURN TURBO LOSS OF XMIT DURING XMIT: Of course check the fuse first, also check the bridge rectifier in the power supply. Sometimes a problem with bridge rectifier will start to show a problem in the form of dim panel and display lights before a complete failure.

COBRA 146 DOES NOT RECEIVE A ROGER BEEP: Because of the frequency of the incoming roger beep, the roger beep tone is most likely being stripped off along with the RF carrier. This has been observed on several different 146’s and no internal problem present. Some roger beep tones come through with no problem while others are stripped off. The most common roger beep that will display problems when transmitted to the 146 is the NASA Tone Beep, RB2002. This is the same tone NASA used on the moon missions!

RCI 2970 DISPLAY DIMS ON TRANSMIT: This indicates a power shortage. To minimize this effect, disable the power jack and bring in 2 #8 audio king feeders directly to the strips. Use rubber grommets at the chassis to protect the new feed wires from damage. A direct battery connection is best for this high power radio. Audio king and amp king make the real soft feeder wire used in high power car audio and is perfect for powering high power radio equipment! Don’t forget proper line fusing on both positive and negative feeds.

TALK BACK TOO LOUD – DISTORTED ON RCI 2950

Check / replace D78, try an in-line resistor to cut down the volume.

COBRA 25 LTD CHANNEL DISPLAY DIMS ON TRANSMIT:

Check and replace C-144. A common problem in the 25 LTD.

COBRA 25 LTD CHANNEL DISPLAY WRONG, NO XMIT, NO RECEIVE:

Check/Replace C-104 near the PLL Chip.

2950 2970 ERRATIC CHANNEL SELECTOR FIX: Change R611, 47k ohm to a 10k ohm. This resistor is located on the main CPU board. Make sure to use a regular carbon resistor. This should cure the channel selector problem.

BAD EARS ON A GALAXY: Tweak the receive coils. The factory only BALL PARKS the coils.
