The Nameless Horror reared up into a tall black column, and for a moment it towered over the captain as if it was going to eat him, not Astra. Then it seemed to melt, subsiding back into an oil slick. On the far side of the ship stood a big, clear plastic jar, and the Horror rippled its way across the deck and poured itself inside, filling it up like ink.

“Well, get to work, Ploodle,” the captain ordered.

Ploodle stood staring at Astra, blushing faintly mauve. “B-but what if she bites me or something?” she asked.

“You read too many space adventures, Ploodle,” snapped the captain. “I’ll leave Poglite Two here to help you. The rest of you, get a move on! Let me at them lovely spoons!”

And the Poglite crew followed him away through the ship toward the air lock, singing as they went. Their singing sounded like a whole bog full of frogs having a burping competition, but a few of them had accidentally left their translators switched on, so above the burps and belches Astra could make out what they were singing:
