STEP 1

Making the Pickets

Select and cut seven pieces of pine, each measuring 3/4" × 2 1/2" × 20".

Select the type of picket you would like to make. (fig. 1)

STEP 2

Making Spacers for the Layout Jig

See diagram E on page 87.

Select and cut two pieces of pine, each measuring 3/4" × 2 1/2" × 39 1/2".

Select and cut twelve pieces of pine, each measuring 3/4" × 2 1/2" × 2 1/2".

Select and cut four pieces of pine, each measuring 3/4" × 2 1/2" × 3 3/4".

Align one picket in between the spacers as shown in figure 2. Attach the spacers by countersinking and screwing with 1 1/4" deck screws. (figs. 3–4)
