Build Your Own Purple Martin House

If you are handy, you can construct your own wooden martin house. The plan offered here joins four separate double-decker units into one structure, creating an eight-compartment house that boasts deep (6" × 11½" × 6", or 15.2 × 29.1 × 15.2 cm) compartments, separate porches for each compartment, and 2-inch-diameter (5.1 cm) entrance holes located 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the porch. It is designed to be mounted on a telescoping pole or on a fixed pole with a winch or pulley system used to raise it up and down for monitoring purposes.
