In Peterborough city centre, 1949 high-bridge Bristol K5G/ECW LKH132, another that had spent its first year on loan to London Transport, is seen on local route 303, heading for Park Farm Estate. At this period, several new housing estates were being built on the outskirts of the city, along with new light industrial estates.

Another of the many interesting independent operators in East Anglia was Canham of Whittlesey, which we also visited on 9 April 1967. In their depot, we find two elderly ECW highbridge-bodied Bristol Ks. On the left is LHY 948, formerly Bristol Omnibus Company No.3783 dating from 1950, and on the right GVF 74, which had been Eastern Counties’ LKH74, new in the same year. Note how the former Bristol Omnibus K has bars on the outside of its front upper-deck windows. Are they meant to keep the schoolchildren it carries in, or to keep offending tree branches out? I presume the latter!
