In the outside garden, you might associate vines with ground coverings or trellises. But here’s a way to meld a few cuttings from nature with a collection of vessels you may already have with enchanting results. Incorporating cut vines (in this case classic and variegated leaf ivy, which is abundant—even invasive—in most locales) is simple but unexpected, and highly achievable by even the most plant-phobic.

A series of containers like these vintage glass laboratory beakers, bottles, and vases brings new meaning to the idea of a “floral arrangement” and breaks free of the static notion that one container can tell the whole story. Warm water, soap, and a bit of rubbing alcohol will remove any stubborn labels from repurposed containers. I liked the purity of this clear glass arrangement, but adding colored glass to the mixture could be beautiful as well.
