How to Start with the Behavior Map-Results Cycle—Exercise

One of the highlights of the BMRC, is you can start at any point, anywhere along the map, and move backward or forward. If you know the results you want to achieve, you can start there and work backward to find the actions, the feelings, and the thoughts you need to get you there. If you are experiencing a strong emotion, you can start in the middle to work backward to uncover the events and thoughts causing your feelings. If you are taking an action (maybe taking a drink) that doesn’t move you forward toward the results you want in your life, you can step back and analyze the feelings, thoughts, and events that might be derailing you. This all takes practice and repetition. You are not going to be great at managing your mind just because you have learned it’s possible to do it!

The first step, is to get good at separating each piece of the BMRC.
