Chapter 8

Gray manifests as they shut the door to the condo behind them. His hair is a wild tangle, heart still pumping as though they had run all the way after leaving Yuri and Drugoy, instead of riding the motorcycle.

He runs up the iron stair easily, taking the spiral three steps at a time. There is no light in the condo, but the ability to see in the dark had been the first adjustment he’d made to their eyes.

John stirs when they enter the bedroom, not doubt alerted by Gray’s energy. “Hey,” he said, sitting up. “I got Caleb’s text this evening. Is everything all right?”

Caleb had simply told John they needed to talk more to Yuri and Drugoy. Which had not been a lie.

“We’ll tell him everything after we get things straightened out with Barillo tomorrow.” Relief spills from Caleb. “But I’m guessing he didn’t hear about what went down with Steele and Ericsson. They must be keeping it under wraps for now.”

Gray does not wish to think of Barillo, or Steele, or Ericsson. He does not wish to think of anything but John, who smells of musk and human sweat. Whose blood tastes better than anything else in the world.

“Yes,” he says, leaving behind a trail of clothing from door to bed. “Yuri has friends. We met one.”

John laughs. “I would think Yuri does have friends, yes. What was he like?”

“She was not as interesting as you,” Gray says, and pounces, shoving John back into the pillows.

John laughs again, his hands gripping their tangled hair. “Missed me?”

“You will come with us, next time.” John’s absence was the only dark spot on what had been a perfect evening.

“Maybe not for the crashing-a-jet-ski-into-a-boat part of the night. But yeah.”

“I’d like that,” John says, and drags them down for a kiss.

He is everything. Yuri and Drugoy are their friends, but John is their heart. He kept them anchored to themselves, the night on Fort Sumter. Kept Caleb from feeling so alone, after Gray first possessed him. Showed Gray what it was like to love, to care, to want and need.

“What do you wish?” Gray asks, when the kiss is done. “We would do anything for you.”

John runs a tongue across Gray’s throat, then bites the lobe of his ear. “I’m thinking sixty-nine.”

Gray strips off John’s boxers; he is already hard beneath. “Let me taste you,” he says, even though there is still a healing scratch on John’s wrist.

“Yes,” John says, and slides down the bed so his mouth is level with their cock.

Gray slides his arms around John’s legs, holding him. Careful of his fangs, he licks and sucks, until he has John moaning. Then he extends a single claw.

Does Drugoy ever taste Isabelle? Or does the blood flow in only one direction?

If so, Drugoy does not know what he is missing. Gray will have to inform him.

“Please, stop thinking,” Caleb begs.

Easily accomplished. Gray drags his claw along the inside of John’s thigh, careful, so careful, not to go too deep. John’s mouth is wet heat around their cock, and he fastens his mouth on the cut.
