With an increased regeneration rank, I wondered if I could heal faster than the damage I sustained. My health bar certainly recovered more swiftly than beforeâmaybe I should make strength third on my priorities list.
Although it was unlikely that dream scenario would happen, having high health and regeneration would undoubtedly be an excellent way to avoid death. Moving forward, I would focus on those for a while. However, I couldnât afford to disregard defence. Minimising the damage I received would be equally advantageous.
I raked my fingers through my hair, releasing a heavy sigh. As far as I knew, this was permanent, and that was an enormous commitment that stressed me out. I couldnât just toss EXP wherever. There must be some planning, or I could see this becoming horribly unbalanced. Everything seemed important too and I wish the system came with instructions.
From the corner of my eye, I spotted a swift movement between barrels, one of which toppled and rolled towards me. That barrel had been pushedâI wasnât imagining things.
âHello?â I called out, my voice echoing slightly in the hull.
I hoped Cain didnât leave me another surprise. His gifts were awful. I would rather he just stop.
Minutes ticked by as I focused on the source of the noise. It wasnât the boatâs gentle rocking; someone or something was here. Just as I was about to look away, I noticed two red glows in the darkness at the other end of the boat. The glow intensified as it neared, revealing a snout that emerged from the shadows. The ebony wolf that had been following me throughout my journey stepped out, sniffing the air, before approaching my cage cautiously.
Though I shouldâve been shocked, I wasnât. At this point, I simply accepted whatever life threw at me, even if it included a Hound of Hell amid the chaos.
Eventually, I would question Cain about this creature. Their eyes were the same bright red as his, and their presence exuded a similar intimidating aura. If it wasnât utterly absurd, Iâd wonder if the Fallen could transform into beasts and if this was one of them. There must have been a reason for this wolf to follow me.
After sniffing the bars of my prison, the animal stared at me with their unblinking red eyes.
âHow did you get on the boat?â I asked, crawling to the front of the cage and extending my hand between the bars.
To my surprise, the wolf allowed me to touch them, moving closer so my fingers could glide through the soft fur on their neck. Their ebony coat was nothing like my jacket. The fur was smooth and silky, with a stunning black hue that seemed to have a blue tint at the right angle. I didnât even know wolves could be this shade of black.
After caressing the wolfâs neck for a while, they lay down against the bars, and I continued to stroke their back as they rested their head on the ground.
If I had Abble and a Hound of Hell on my side, perhaps slaying the demon of my bloodline would be more manageable.
