Chapter Seven

Noelle stood looking around at her baby and felt nothing but pride at her shop. It had come alive just like she pictured in her head and on Friday night would be the soft opening with a small party before Saturday’s grand opening. Her staff was hired, and they would wear the Harper Couture t-shirts and black jeans she picked. They had the shirts in various colors for each week and the girls were excited to start. For the party, they would be dressed up and hand out the little to-go bags Noelle had made up.

Going down her list of to-dos as music pulsed around her, while the sound system for the store was being set up for the night’s event. Caterers were hired. Sapphire Sips, the mobile Bartender, and a hot new DJ that were going to take over the upstairs loft style landing. Noelle did a little shimmy because she was super excited and nervous as hell. Her family was coming; she left it up to her mother to decide who would come and behave.

She hated to say it, but outside of her mom, brothers, and one or two aunts, the rest of her family saw a good time in everything. God knows after getting a news crew to cover the opening, she didn’t want her cousins twerking to be seen on the news. Noelle snorted in amusement at the picture in her head where a cousin screams that’s my jam and uses one of the shelving with the shorts and t-shirts to ‘throw it back.’

The door opened and Noelle turned expecting to see Shawn or one of the crew. Noelle had a gift for all of them, for their wives and or significant others, after she made sure to talk to them to see what would be perfect from her stock just for them. Instead, a tall blond woman in high waist jeans and yellow sneaks to match her shirt stepped inside. Her unannounced guest had kind blue eyes, and a warm smile curved her lips instantly making Noelle comfortable. She smiled back.

“We’re not open until tomorrow,” Noelle said. “Can I help you with something?”

“Yes, you can, I’m Misty, Vale’s friend,” she held out a hand to her.

Noelle’s smile dropped, but she took Misty’s hand anyway. “Did you come to see the ditzy model at work?”

Misty laughed. “You should let that go hun. Vale was grieving and very much alone after you bailed. Also, I need to apologize for how I came across saying it, because I must have sounded like a teetotalling bitch.”

“Yeah, you were,” Noelle agreed without missing a beat. “I’m one of those types if you’d said to my face, it would be answered in a way that you didn’t like.”

“Understood, again I’m sorry,” Misty replied. “He was angry at God and you, as his friend I was too. He couldn’t fight his brother for leaving him and combine that with trying to raise a six-week-old baby, it was a perfect storm.”

“I get that,” Noelle sighed.
