Chapter 6

Later that night I was pacing around the kitchen in a full-blown tizzy. This was the night I had made reservations for us to eat at Ali’s restaurant, but since he was already cooking for us and I wanted him at home as much as possible, we decided to grub off his cooking another time.

Ali had agreed to call me when he was done with work, and I’d come get him and ’port us both back here. He had admitted he really liked waking in my bed, and he’d never gotten a better night’s sleep. He should have been done around ten, ten thirty at the latest. So, now that it was after midnight and I’d not heard from him, I was panicking.

“Maybe they just had a busy night,” Justice said gently, obviously trying to reassure me. Everyone, minus the twins, who were sleeping of course, was now gathered in the kitchen with me. That also didn’t help my anxiety level. It was as if they felt something was wrong, too.

“No, he still would have called. Ali is a considerate person,” I replied firmly. “He was going to pay off that Marcus asshole. I knew I shouldn’t have left him alone. He was so sure Marcus wouldn’t be stupid enough to hurt him because there would be witnesses. I knew better. Crazy is as crazy does, and Marcus is all kinds of crazy.”

“Where does he live? I’ll go with you, and we’ll make sure everything’s okay.” Bren had on his cop face now, ready to right all the wrongs in the world. He was Horse’s mate but everyone in this house loved him, too, for the big heart he had.

“I don’t know,” I whimpered and plopped down onto the floor. “I don’t even have his number. I gave him mine when he was leaving for work. Things have been going so well that it never crossed my mind that he wouldn’t call.”

“Then teleport over there,” Button said and rolled his eyes. “But what if there’s not a problem and he just needs time and space to think things through?” This was the argument I’d been going over in my mind for the past two hours.

“Do you want to take that chance with your mate?” Why asked gently. Yep, that about summed it all up.

“Okay, I’ll teleport to him and then come back for Bren,” I said and ’ported out of there. I landed in my mate’s bedroom, and he was there, tied down…and not by me. I almost went right back home, my heart breaking until I realized he was gagged and there was blood on his face. Oh, not that type of being tied down. I put my finger to my lips, and he nodded he understood, though his eyes were wide and terrified, begging me not to leave him.

I really hated that I had to do it, but it was the only way to get him out of there. I ran to the window and ’ported down to the street.
