Chapter 12

What He Must Do

December 11, 2022 — U.N. World Meteorological Organization, Washington, D.C.

“Come look at this,” Ed Rifkin called to his supervisor as he rechecked the orientation of his equipment.

“What is it?” asked Jeff Burke, Rifkin’s supervisor.

“I’m not sure. A moment ago I was tracking swarm 237a over Northern Africa. Now they’ve simply vanished. It was as if they suddenly just fell out of the air.”

“They’re probably feeding,” Burke responded.

“No, sir. I don’t think so. I’ve seen them drop to feed too many times. This was different.”

“I’ve got the same thing over Mar del Plata. Argentina,” said another tracker.

“Ditto that over Sydney, Australia,” said someone else.

“Same over Miami.”

Another dozen reports came in the same way.

“What the hell’s going on?” Jeff Burke demanded. “Give me a check on every swarm and trackable sub-swarm. I want to know what’s going on now!”

What was going on was that all over the world the locusts were dying and falling from the sky. The swarm that fell over Sydney, Australia was so large it would take two weeks to clean it up. Other areas had similar accumulations, which clogged gutters on houses and sewers in the cities. In all, the plague had lasted five months. Now, as quickly as it had come, it was over. It was a lime to celebrate. But the celebration would not last for long.

As they had before, again they walked the streets of Jerusalem shouting their message until they came to the Temple. Then, as they stood before the steps of the Temple, John and Cohen declared their newest prophecy.

Tlie sixth angel sounded his trumpet and I heard a voice coming from the horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, ‘Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates. ‘ And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was two hundred million. I heard their number.9

As John and Cohen left the Temple they were again followed by police, press, and curiosity seekers. This time the crowd was stopped by police as they neared the edge of the city. The military was ready. They had cleared the street and evacuated the buildings surrounding the spot where the men had disappeared on their two previous visits. They were prepared to do whatever was necessary to capture or kill the two.

John and Cohen walked straight ahead. In front of them a huge nylon net spanned the width of the street. John and Cohen

continued walking as though they did not even see it. When they came within a few yards of it, the netting simply dissolved into vapor and they passed through.
