LIFECYCLE Tailed-blues are on the wing from spring through fall and can produce several generations each year, depending on the climate and habitat. Males patrol near the host plants and sometimes perch conspicuously. You may sometimes find a pair of tiny little blues courting on a daisy, both easily able to fit on the face of the flower. Females lay their eggs on the host plant. The last generation of caterpillars of the year hibernates, pupates in the spring, and emerges within weeks as the year’s first adult butterflies.
