Why Hold It So Close?

We tend to hold our dearest memories and moments of brilliance close. This makes sense because they give us comfort, but the potential problem is that we can grip them too tightly, and what was formerly a lovely feeling can become a fixed image that loses its warmth and vitality. The Compassionate Response Practice reverses this tendency and asks us to release these wonderful moments and let the image of them expand and grow until it envelops us in its luminosity. To do this we use a specific image of when we were in flow with ourselves and our kids as kindling to start the fire, then move this image outward until it creates a radiating warmth that fills us with a quiet joy.
