Chapter 6

Gemma was tired and running on fumes trying to teach her a new gig and keep up the work at the diner. She had a moment of meditation just to reset by doing yoga and was mid-routine on the edge of the Living River Ranch property. This is where she felt closest to God and was able to hear her thoughts outside of town. The small rental she had was right in the middle of the small sleepy town, compared to the large city. Normally she could hear everything but...out here, in the middle of nowhere, it was different.

She felt relaxed as she finished another pose and turned to stretch that muscle group. Then over to the next side with a big stretch and her arms toward the heavens. Again, she could feel herself relaxing and knew that she would fall into a deep sleep given a chance. She wouldn’t change anything in her routine at the moment, but there were weak moments where a little rest did try to lull her into a sense of unrest.

“Hey you,” Madden’s voice interjected. “What are you doing?”

She took a deep breath to finish the pose she was on and then turned to him calmly. She was still stretching but trying to refocus to chat also.

“I asked Brigitta about doing yoga in the open space out here,” she sighed with her face toward the sky. “I mean, this is the most relaxing place I can imagine being able to go through my routine. There is literally no one out here,” she said, throwing her arms wide.

“I have never understood the whole yoga thing,” Madden replied. “My mother also swears by it to focus herself and get herself centered for the day. However, it looks like something that would leave me in pain from contorting my muscles.”

“You can’t stay quiet and just exist for a little while,” she asked, arching her brow at him in a challenge. “I understand that this might be too difficult for you to undertake successfully,” she said with a petulant little pout that was overly dramatic.

“Okay, show me why this is so centering,” Madden said, slipping off his work boots and sitting on the grass only about a foot from her. She raised his hands up, stretching a bit, then moved his head side to side and cracked his fingers. Then he just arched a brow at her daring her to give directions for him to follow her.

“Okay, so listen to my voice to give you instructions and try to clear your mind,” Gemma said to him, with a slight grin that she turned from Madden as she glanced ahead of her before closing her eyes.

She thought he was so adorable as he attempted to quiet and follow her lead as she peeked at him under her eyelid. She might have tried one of the more difficult poses to see how he did. When he tried to bend backward in the pose, he looked as if he was in the most pain as he focused hard on the task.
