Head Movements

A person’s nonverbal behavior should align with their verbal behavior. This is especially true when it comes to head movements while answering questions. If someone answers a question you ask by saying “No” and then—almost without meaning to—nodding their head up and down as a nonverbal sign of saying “Yes,” take note of it. The same holds true for a “Yes” verbal answer, but a nonverbal “No” head shake. Those sorts of inconsistencies matter when you’re trying to decipher what a person says versus what they actually mean.
