As per notes of Brig. Sukhdev Singh, when Gen. Thimaya visited l Patiala troops in Kangan on 11th June 1948, he gave an indication of linking with Leh in late summer when more troops would become available. In the meantime, Zojila had to be held strongly.

16 This code name has been mentioned in the War Diaries and Sitreps of HQ Sri. Div., HQ 77 Para Brigade, 1 Patiala, 3 JAT and 5 Maratha.
17 It was a small feature near the track junction on Mushko nullah. Approximately 23 Km. as the crow flies, north - north east of Sonamarg and 12 Km. from Bot Kulan Ganj. The route from Sonamarg to Bot Kulan Ganj (ht. 14,770 ft) and point 11,745 involved tough climb, rocky mountainous terrain, snow and glacier beds. It was very difficult going even during normal times. From point 11,745 the passage to Dras, around 30 km. due east, ran along Mushko Nullah and was comparatively much easier to traverse.
18 The OP Order does not mention 3 JAT but 2 Coys 1 Patiala; may be because 3 JAT arrived Sonamarg only on 1st September. As the battalion did take part in the left-hook, it has been so mentioned. No element of 1 Patiala was included in the column of Lt. Col. Pathania.
