Dangerous reactions triggered by the ammonia in urine coming in contact with the other chemical components of some litters can occur, leaving a toxic residue on a cat’s feet and fur that is later consumed when he licks himself clean. Once these hazards are in a cat’s mouth, they move through its digestive system and are quickly dispersed throughout its body, resulting in internal disturbances that can lead to the destruction of the cat’s cells, organs, and systems.

By using baking soda to regularly clean and deodorize the litterbox, a cat owner can enjoy an odor-free environment that also doesn’t pose a threat to their favorite furry friends. Sprinkling baking soda in an all-natural litter creates a disinfected space that not only combats bacteria and microbes but also neutralizes the source of odors. Simple, easy, and inexpensive, 1 tablespoon of baking soda can be sprinkled over the top of every fresh change of litter. An additional tablespoon of baking soda can be combined with 1/4 cup of water to create a disinfecting rinse that helps clean and deodorize a litterbox. Once the application is applied, simply rinse, dry, and fill with new litter.
