Jiuguijiu

酒 鬼 酒

Extra-Strong Aroma

52% ABV

Ingredients: Sorghum, rice, glutinous rice, wheat, corn

Jiuguijiu has the pungency of a blue cheese, a clean finish and a layered flavour that contains a little bit of everything: fruit, stinky tofu, nuts, liquorice, roasted herbs and juniper.

Like other central Chinese distilleries, Jiuguijiu makes up for its historical paucity with boundless creativity. Its name refers to a line of poetry by Hunan artist Huang Yongyu: ‘The drunkard becomes the drunken immortal’. Founded in 1956, Jiuguijiu or ‘Drunkard’s Liquor’ was the result of a calculated government innovation drive in 1979.

Jiuguijiu became a publicly-listed corporation with several subsidiary businesses in 1997, and promptly established itself as a pioneer in baijiu marketing. In 2005, the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department officially recognised Jiuguijiu’s blend of big- and small-qu styles as a new category of baijiu: extra-strong aroma. Two years later, Jiuguijiu relaunched with a new recipe developed by leading national master blender Madame Wu Xiaoping of Guojiao 1573 and Wenjun fame.
