CUTS AND SCRAPES

For treating minor cuts and scrapes, first apply pressure to the injured area to stop the bleeding. When the bleeding has stopped, clean the wound completely. Next, apply an antibiotic cream and then finish it off with a well-placed bandage. If the injured area is too wide (like a big scrape), wrap it in clean gauze and fix some medical tape to the bandage to make sure that it doesn’t unravel.

BURNS

You should also be prepared to treat minor burns, like from a pot handle on a stovetop. If there is any question about how bad the burn is, you should seek professional medical attention, but if the burn appears to be minor, you’ll want to soak the area in cold water. Soaking is better than running it under the tap. When the area is cool, apply an antibiotic cream, and again, if at any time you start to think that this burn is more serious than you originally thought—seek medical attention immediately.
