John Gregor:
âEverybody stay still if you want to live!â
The sound spread through the entire building as screams erupted into the air. For a moment, I was lost as to what was going on. I looked around and noticed the way the men and women had started to get down on their knees. My eyes began to search through the crowd for Eva, but when she was nowhere to be found, worry started to take over my system.
Someone was holding everyone hostage, and Eva was nowhere to be seen. Panic was brewing in my stomach. I looked up to see that there was a man in a mask one story above me. He was gripping a gun tightly in his hand as he yelled out to everyone on the floor below.
âStay where you are! All of you!â
The people around me were too scared to even move a muscle. I decided to move fast as I pressed myself against one of the huge pillars holding the building up. As I slowly started to move toward the floor above me, I heard the gunmanâs voice once again.
âNow look at what youâve caused!â
As I approached the floor, I realized his back was to me. My eyes widened when they fell upon the two people who were closest in range to the maniac holding the gun.
It was Caleb and Eva; Caleb had his mask off while Evaâs was still held close to her face.
While I stood there trying to plan what to do next, the man with the gun spoke up once again.
âI told you not to involve anyone else, and here we areâ¦youâve got this chick all wrapped up in our business!â
I took a step forward and realized that he was now pointing and waving the gun toward Eva. Caleb looked scared when he spoke. His voice quivered.
âSheâ¦she doesnât know anything, man, please.â
I could not wait for another second for him to slip up and make a mistake. I needed to keep Eva protected no matter what, and so before the man had the chance to reply, I jumped forward with my full body weight toward the man with the gun. I heard a few shots going off into the air. Screams filled the area around me, but I refused to let the man go. Both of our bodies fell to the ground at once, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
To my surprise, he was fast as he twisted his other arm around and slammed the back of the gun into the side of my head. My head collided with the marble-coated floor beneath me, and for a moment, my vision began to get blurry. I could still hear screams and cries from the people around me. Heavy footsteps began to approach us, but I was slowly losing my vision.
I shook my head to try and get back into the moment, and by the time my vision finally cleared up, I realized that the security from the venue had taken over. People were running around without a sense of direction.
