Hummingbirds will visit flowers such as these petunias. Planting them in window boxes will give you a front-row seat for easy viewing. Also consider planting tubs and containers on decks and patios with hummingbird-attracting plants.

Petunias

Petunias are sprawling, 8- to 18-inch plants that bear trumpet-shaped blooms in red, deep pink, purple, blue, and white. Many striped or barred types are available too, including red and pink blooms with stripes or white edges. For hummingbirds, avoid double flowers. Chose multiflora or milliflora types, which have smaller and more plentiful flowers and are more disease resistant than grandifloras.
